Protecting database in recovery process is the most important goal for any database administrator after the occurrence of any problem in the storage devices of the database. To protect the data base you have to perform some steps that guarantee the safe backup and recovery of the different types of data of the database.
The first essential step for protecting the database in recovery is choosing the proper type of data base recovery. There are three main types of database recovery methods. The first method is the simple database recovery and this method is used when you, as a database administrator, decide that the transactions are not as important as the main data of the database and you need to protect and back up the main data disregarding what transactions had occurred. In other words, you are accepting the loss that may occur in the transactions.
Other methods of recovery include full recovery and bulk – logged recovery and in these methods you protect the data of the database in recovery as well as the entire transactions log that occur on it. These methods are more sophisticated and require higher experience in performing it. In addition to this, it also needs more system requirements and disk drive space as the back up files are nearly of the same size of the database in recovery itself.
The back up method that you maintain during your daily usage of the database determines the amount of data that you can recover from the database in case of storage media destruction or in case of accidental loss or deletion. It is advised to save your back up files on a separate storage device other than the database itself. Saving your back up files on another storage media in a separate place will minimize the incidence of loss of back up files in case of storage media destruction. This will facilitate protection of database in recovery process.
